    • The Scottish Black and Ethnic Minority Achievement Award 2008

      These Awards are designed to highlight, profile and reward the significant contribution made by Minority Ethnic Communities in civic and political life.

      DIWC was honoured with nominations by a number of anonymous individuals / organisations and we were delighted to be awarded the Grass Roots Award during the red carpet Awards Ceremony on Friday 20th June 2008.

      DIWC Graduation Ceremony Friday 27th June 2008

      100 DIWC service users and their families attended the ceremony celebrating the many achievements of our members.

      Graduation certificate and certificates of attendance where given to individuals participating in a wide range of classes including IT, ECDL, English at 4 different levels, English for Polish Speakers, NC Childcare and Education, Fairplay, and Learn Direct Job Skills.

      In addition we commended our many volunteers who support and run many of our classes, without whom none of this would be possible. Thank you.

    • We just held our hugely successful ‘Flights of Fancy’ Event to celebrate International Women’s Week on Friday 7th March 2008, held at the Bonar hall and attended by 345 women from diverse community around Dundee. The evening included a fashion show, Tribal Belly dancing, African drumming, a dance performance by a group of school girls, and an Isis wing dance. This was followed by food and multicultural music to dance away the evening.

      Thank to all the volunteers and hard work of all the groups involved as well as our Community Education Placement Student Evelyn Bell!

    • DIWC has achieved national recognition at the Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum Awards for best practice in
      regeneration. Staff received a Certificate, marking the Centre as an award winner, at a glittering ceremony held in the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow.

      The judges felt that the recent expansion of this long running community project has highlighted the demand for the quality services it provides.

      'The judges unanimously agreed that this project merited a Highly Commended award in the People Category of the 2007 SURF Awards'. (SURF)

    • DIWC is delighted to have been awarded the Partnership Community Award 2007 in the Equality and Diversity Category. As a result the Dundee partnership made a DVD in the centre to record the work of DIWC! This DVD was on show at the Dundee Partnership Awards Ceremony in October.

      We were also nominated for our work with the Bazorg Group (over 50's Group)!

      Nomination
      DIWC has been nominated for a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service by Jim McGovern, MP for Dundee West. This award was announced in 2002, by the Queen as a new annual UK National Honour, in recognition and reward of excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community. We shall keep you posted on the progress of the nomination!
